Company Overview

Going into its 10th year of operations, Hempire began in Canmore, Alberta by entrepreneur Marsha Churchill. The appealing store started out carrying solely hemp made products. With its eye-catching name and logo it quickly expanded its product base to include organic wear, pipes and a large variety of accessories and health and body products. As the store began drawing people from far and wide, Marsha realized that there was opportunity to expand to similar locations. Fernie, BC was an attractive second store location. Similar to Canmore in its growth potential and ski hill proximity, Marsha made the jump and opened Hempire in downtown Fernie in June of 2001. Just two years later in December of 2003 Marsha opened Hempire’s third location in Banff, Alberta.

Being environmentally conscious has always been central to Marsha’s business practices with Hempire, and as this subject grows in popularity throughout North America it is not only easier to find a broader base of products to sell, it is also easier to sell these products. The environment and sustainability in general are key issues today with many people becoming increasingly aware of the products and services they use. Marsha realized that with this turn and the general interest in Hemp products overall, Hempire had the opportunity to continue growing and expanding into new markets.

Marsha decided that franchising was the best expansion option for Hempire and began working with a franchise consultant from Vancouver, BC. They developed attractive franchise packages for interested parties and Marsha began selling Hempire across Canada. Interest surfaced quickly and nearly with a blink of an eye the Canmore and Banff Hempire’s were sold to franchisees and new stores in Cochrane and Red Deer opened.

Hempire is continuing with this surge in growth. Marsha is receiving franchise package requests, training new franchisees and keeping current franchisees happy on an ongoing basis. The store itself is also continually growing, staying one step ahead of popular demand by anticipating trends and needs in the market place.
